The Super Cup will feature Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and runners-up Borussia Dortmund, who have qualified by the virtue of Bayern winning the league and cup double. Bayern is the favorite in the betting tip. The match will be played on 14 August at 8:30 p.m.
Dortmund have signed promising players – Tuchel’s side are outsiders in the betting tip
Borussia Dortmund had an impressive season finishing second in the Bundesliga and will face Bayern for the fifth time in a DFL-Supercup match. In their previous four encounters, Dortmund won three times, while Bayern won only once. In order to build a strong team and play competitive football this season, BVB are very active on the transfer market and have already signed some talented and promising players. Midfielder Mario Goetze has re-joined Dortmund from the Bavarians and announced that he is keen to win a special game against Bayern. Tuchel’s side has also signed midfielder Sebastian Rode for an undisclosed fee, as well as Andre Schuerrle, Emre Mor, Guerreiro, Merino and Marc Bartra. The new signings have added a lot of quality to the squad and this will make them Bayern chasers no.1 once again. With Mats Hummels, however, Dortmund lost a key player to their rivals. The centre-back has become the latest player to swap Signal Iduna Park for the Allianz Arena this summer and he could face a hostile reception when the two clubs meet in the opening match of the new German season. With Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Ilkay Gundogan, two more extremely important players have left the club but this will not be a big shock for them, and coach Thomas Tuchel is confident that his side can spring a little surprise even though they are outsiders.
Hummels will face his former club – Bayern will be without star winger Arjen Robben
This will be Bayern’s fifth straight Supercup and their tenth overall appearance. And it will be the first official match for Carlo Ancelotti as head coach of Bayern and the first match for Mats Hummels on his second tour of duty with the club. Last season, Bayern won the Bundesliga and came close to reaching the Champions League final, when Atletico Madrid advanced solely on the away goal rule after legs ended 2-2 on aggregate. Pep Guardiola did not manage to deliver the Champions League in his three years at Bayern Munich but that has not made him a failure. There have not been many changes in the squad but especially winger Franck Ribery claimed that he has finally felt trusted again since Carlo Ancelotti took over from Guardiola. Goetze, Rode, Hoejbjerg and Benatia were no regular first-team players and have all left the club. With Mats Hummels and Renato Sanchez, Bayern have signed two world-class players and Hummels will face his former club in his first official match on Sunday. The preparation has not been ideal but all players returned to team training following their Euro 2016 heroics. Bayern will be the favourites against BVB in the betting tip for the Supercup.
Betting tip for Borussia Dortmund versus FC Bayern Munich
Dortmund have the home advantage but will be only outsiders in front of their fans with odds between 2.88 and 3.30. Bayern travel to Signal Iduna Park with their entire squad and have odds from 2.13 to 2.38. A draw is likely between two real heavyweights of German football and will pay out odds between 3.19 and 3.57. Our tip: BVB have been very active on the transfer market and had a good pre-season preparation with four wins, two draws and two losses in eight matches. They have to integrate their new signings into the team’s tactical system. Bayern have not lost many players which means this team is well-practised. For that reason, we expect a Bayern victory over Dortmund at best odds of 2.38.
