Germany will face South American champions Chile in their second group game of the Confederations Cup on Thursday night. Both sides won their opening matches in Group B which where both entertaining affairs. It remains to be seen which team will be able to keep up their winning streak. Chile are slightly favoured on paper but we think that Germany have a stronger side in the betting tip. The match will kick off at 8 p.m. at the Kazan Arena.
Germany with their young players are difficult to predict – favourites in the betting tip
Joachim Loew’s young side won 3-2 against Australia in a thrilling encounter as they were brilliantly lead by Julian Draxler and picked three crucial points. The final scoreline suggested a tighter match than it actually was because the Germans were the better side from the beginning and their victory rarely, if ever, looked in doubt. Germany made the faster start and took the lead after five minutes thanks to a goal from Lars Stindl. The Socceroos didn’t give up and levelled but Draxler scored another one shortly before the interval. Goretzka added a third goal for Germany after the break which was enough to secure the victory but Loew’s men could have scored more goals. Germany will have to improve their performance especially in the defence if they want to progress to the knockout stages. We favour Germany in our betting tip and think that they have the quality in their squad to win the top clash against Chile.
Chile with difficulties against Cameroon – question mark over Alexis Sanchez
The South Americans struggled in their first game against Cameroon and had to wait until the 81st minute for their first goal by FC Bayern midfielder Arturo Vidal. Chile faced tough opposition throughout but fought hard and added a second one by Eduardo Vargas in stoppage time. Cameroon also showed a good performance but lacked real goal threat up front. Germany will present a tougher calibre of opposition as they are the current world champions and have a higher squad value. Chile can boast a market value of £145.27m, which is only half of that of Loew’s side (£317.48m). Both teams are highly motivated for the match and they will play aggressive from the first minute. Chile have a lot of individual quality in their squad but there will be a question mark over Alexis Sanchez, who suffered an ankle injury. The Arsenal player started on the bench in the Confederations Cup after picking up the injury in training.
Betting tip for Germany versus Chile
World Cup winners Germany won their first match but will just be outsiders against Chile with odds between 2.55 and 2.95. Chile are considered favourites in the bookmakers’ eyes with odds ranging from 2.28 to 2.52. A draw is likely and will pay out odds between 3.29 and 3.75. Our tip: We expect a tight and hard-fought match in which both teams’ first concern will be not to lose. Germany have a strong offence and are capable of getting on the scoresheet, but you have to fear for their defence as they conceded two goals against Australia. Chile have a solid defence but we think that Germany can win this one. For that reason, we expect a narrow Germany win over Chile at best odds of 2.95.
